What is Sporanox (Itraconazole) used for?

Sporanox (Itraconazole) is a triazole antifungal with a wide variety of uses. It is prescribed to patients as a treatment for fungal infections affecting the fingernails or toenails. It is also used as a treatment for yeast infections of the throat or mouth or for fungal infections which start off in the lungs and spread throughout the body. Apart from this, it is sometimes prescribed to patients with HIV in order to prevent fungal infections.

How should I use Sporanox (Itraconazole)?

If you are treating fungal infections of the nails, you may be told to take it twice per day for 1 week, after which you may be told not to take it for 3 weeks. It may then be taken again twice per day, for 1 more week. You should note that it can take up to 6 months for fingernails to fully re-grow, and 1 year for toenails. You should consult your physician if you believe that this treatment is not effective.
