What is Torfix (Rifaximin) used for?

Torfix (Rifaximin) is prescribed as a treatment for diarrhea caused by bacteria (traveler's diarrhea). However, it should not be used for diarrhea caused by a fever. When taken, this drug remains in the digestive system, and will not be absorbed into the blood. This medication may also be used to reduce the risk of impaired brain function (hepatic encephalopathy).

How should I use Torfix (Rifaximin)?

Torfix (Rifaximin) comes in the form of tablets. The dosage required depends on the condition being treated, and patients should consult their physician so that the correct dosage can be prescribed. Some patients treating traveler's diarrhea may be told to take it 3 times per day for a period of 3 days. If you are taking this medication to prevent hepatic encephalopathy, you may be told to take it twice pear day. Follow all instructions provided to you by your physician.
