What is Zoxan-D Eye/Ear Drops (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone) used for?

Zoxan D (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone) is used to treat bacterial infections of the eyes or ears. It is a quinolone antibiotic and anti-inflammatory corticosteroid which fights bacterial infections, and alleviates related symptoms, such as inflammation, swelling, redness, irritation, and itchiness. Infections treated include swimmer's ear and conjunctivitis. It is important to note that this medication is only effective when used to treat bacterial infections, and is not proven to help fungal or viral infections.

How should I use Zoxan-D Eye/Ear Drops (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone)?

A typical prescription of Zoxan D (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone) is twice daily, with a gap of 12 hours in between. Before administration, gently shake the bottle for at least 10 seconds to thoroughly mix the solution inside.

In order to prevent contamination, do not touch the dropper or allow it to come into contact with any surfaces or other objects. Always recap the bottle immediately after use.

As with all antibiotics, the prescribed course of medication needs to be completed even if your symptoms have subsided. Infections can relapse stronger and more resistant to medication if not eliminated the first time they are treated.

What are the side effects of Zoxan-D Eye/Ear Drops (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone)?

Disclose all side effects to your physician, doing so promptly if any persist or worsen. Common side effects of Zoxan D (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone) include:

  • Discomfort or pain in the ear or eye
  • Blurry vision
  • Mild irritation or stinging in the ear or eye
  • Increased sensitivity to light

Please Note

Over use of Zoxan D (Ciprofloxacin HCL/Dexamethasone) may cause the infection to become more resistant to antibiotic medication. Overuse of the ear drops can result in fungal infections which require separate treatment.

Strictly follow all instructions provided to you by your physician or pharmacist while using this medication. Optimum and safe dosage can differ based on the patient and the condition being treated.

As this medication may be unsafe for certain patients, it is essential you always inform your physician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as if you have any allergies, other illnesses, or ongoing health conditions, and if you are taking any other form of medication, supplements, or herbal products.

Immediately seek emergency medical care if you have any allergic or hypersensitive reaction. Common signs of a reaction include hives, swelling, skin rashes, chest pains, as well as trouble breathing or swallow.
