What is Marvelon (Ethinylestradiol/Desogestrel) used for?

Marvelon (Ethinylestradiol/Desogestrel) is a type of oral contraceptive, more commonly known as a birth control pill, which is used as a form of contraception, to help prevent pregnancy. It works by preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries, while also thickening the mucus in the neck of the womb and changing the womb lining. The active ingredients in this medication are both synthesized versions of the natural female hormones estrogen and progesterone.

How should I use Marvelon (Ethinylestradiol/Desogestrel)?

Marvelon (Ethinylestradiol/Desogestrel) tablets should be taken exactly as prescribed by your physician. This product contains either 21 hormonal tablets and 7 inactive tablets, or else 21 hormonal tablets. The hormonal tablets are normally taken for 21 days, after which the inactive tablets are taken for 7 days. If the package does not have inactive tablets, you should not take any tablets for the 7 days following your first pack of 21 tablets. During these 7 days, you may experience bleeding similar to your normal period (withdrawal bleed). Consult your physician before taking these tablets so that you can be properly advised on how to take them.
