What is Diane-35 (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) used for?

Diane-35 (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) is used as an oral birth control pill, while simultaneously treating severe acne and hirsutism (abnormal growth of hair) in women. The active ingredients in this pill are either derived or synthesized from natural female hormones. It is not normally used on its own as a contraceptive, but instead it is usually prescribed to women suffering from severe acne or hirsutism, and has the added benefit of also functioning as a contraceptive.

How should I use Diane-35 (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol)?

Diane-35 (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol) tablets are taken by mouth, exactly as prescribed by your physician. You will normally be told to take one tablet per day, for 21 days. After this, you don't take it for 7 days. The next pack of pills should be started after the 7 day break. In order for this medication to be effective, you should not miss any doses. If you forget one dose, take the dose that you missed as soon as you possibly can, and continue taking it as normal. You may still be protected against pregnancy. However, if you forget 2 or more doses, this medication definitely will not be effective. If this occurs, take the last missed dose as soon as possible, and continue treatment as normal. Patients are normally told to stop taking this medication 3 to 4 months after their skin condition has been treated.

What are the side effects of Diane-35 (Cyproterone Acetate/Ethinyl Estradiol)?
