What is Arimidex (Anastrozole) used for?

Arimidex (Anastrozole) is used to help treat breast tumors in postmenopausal women. It contains the active ingredient anastrozole, which works by reducing the estrogen levels in the body. Estrogen is required for the tumor to grow. By reducing the levels of estrogen, this drug helps to treat the tumor. It is sometimes prescribed to patients who have seen their cancer progress, even after taking drugs such as tamoxifen.

Arimidex (Anastrozole) tablets should be taken orally. Patients are sometimes directed to take one tablet daily. Treatment with this medication may take up to 5 years, and patients should continue to take this drug unless told not to by their physician. What are the side effects of Arimidex (Anastrozole)?

Arimidex (Anastrozole) has been known to cause side effects, including:

  • Weakness in the wrists or hands
  • Joint
