What is Doxine (Doxycycline Hyclate) used for?

Doxine (Doxycycline Hyclate) is a type of tetracycline antibiotic which is used to treat a wide range of bacterial infections, such as bacterial infections that cause acne. It also treats infections of the urinary tract, respiratory infections and many other types. Other uses include preventing malaria in people travelling to areas affected by malaria and treating rosacea.

How should I use Doxine (Doxycycline Hyclate)?

Doxine (Doxycycline Hyclate) is taken by mouth, and on an empty stomach. Ensure that you take it either 1 hour before eating or else 2 hours after a meal. This drug is swallowed whole with a full glass of water, usually 1 to 2 times per day. However, if you experience a stomach upset, you may need to take it with food, which may decrease the effectiveness of it. Discuss this with your physician.

The dosage regime is different for preventing malaria, and usually requires taking it before travel, during travel and after you return from a malaria affected area. Therefore, it is important to consult your physician so that you are fully aware of the required dosage and the period of time for which treatment is required.

What are the side effects of Doxine (Doxycycline Hyclate)?

Some patients taking Doxine (Doxycycline Hyclate) may notice side effects, such as:

  • Nausea or diarrhea
  • Stomach upset
  • Itchiness
  • Sore mouth
  • Vaginal discharge

Consult your physician immediately if you notice sunburn caused by an increased sensitivity to light, symptoms of oral thrush or a vaginal yeast infection or discolored urine.
